Elections for the Hasani Mejlis are due for 5 February 2020.[2]

Background

Electoral system

Under the Fifth Constitution of Hasanistan, deputies from the Mejlis were elected from single-member constituencies (representing individual sanjaks or crown constituencies) using the first-past-the-post system. De jure there are twelve seats eligible for election, although the actual amount was only five due to some constituencies either having had no registered subjects or candidates at the time.[3] Seats with only one candidate held votes of confidence to see whether the candidate had the popular support of their respective constituency, with the choice of either approving or rejeting the candidate, which if unsuccessful would have required the Shahanshah appoint another individual to represent the constituency.[2]

Hasani subjects over the age of 14 have the right to stand for election as deputies of the Mejlis.
