Altough there where initialy 6 candidates declared to run for Union President. Most of them endorsed Sebastiaan Güneştarlası and dropped out of the race

Although the constitution required the president to be directly-elected, it is decided that the first elections should be held on an indirect basis as it was necessary for a president to be elected immediately and processes taking place in the country did not leave time for elections to be held.

The election is open for a voting period from 6 to 12 December 2021, Only members of the [[State Union|State Unions]] parliament the Supreme Council can vote. All 11 members of the House of Republics and 21 members of the House of Citizens can elect a candidate for President and Vice President. While both the RAP and the People's party want to endorse an unity candidate Sebastiaan Güneştarlası is seen as the man for a "New Union, New person". Güneştarlası was almost elected unopposed However soon he was opposed by prerennial candidate [[Yahya Iqachoura]]. Iqachoura ran as an anti federalist, decentralized Erdoganist platform. He questioned the necessity of the expanding of the union and the constant oversight of the federal government, civil society associations and security agencies. He spoke of the need for states rights, and devoted attention to states’s rights issues.

Sebasian Güneştarlası won the required 17 votes to be elected state union president while DeWitt won the vice presidential race due to him having the most votes (14).. , This is due to many delegates voting blank, Both disliking the candidates, voting based on state loyality and or rather protesting the electoral system for the first elections. The means of this election drew mixed reactions. Johanned Doorn, a senator from Konraq, believed that the president should face a nationwide vote. Others were upset with the lack of opposition against Güneştarlası for a position that sought to increase democracy throughout the State Union
